اوایل سال نود و چهار بود. ما درگیر پروژه ساغند بودیم. یک روز در راه آهن اردکان منتظر قطار بودیم. من و نوید سر این بحث می‌کردیم که چه زمانی باید به موضوع تکثیر در اسارت پرداخت؟ چطور و چه وقت متوجه می‌شویم که تعداد یوز آنقدر کم شده که باید تکثیر در محدوده‌های فنس‌کشی شده را جدی گرفت؟ چه زمانی باید به دنبال زنده گیری یوزهای وحشی رفت؟
نوید می‌گفت تا این نقطه راه زیادی داریم. هنوز از شرایط برخی نقاط مطمئن نیستیم. من هم اما این نگرانی را داشتم:«باید حواسمان باشد که انقراض غافلگیرمان نکند. باید از پیش آماده بود. وظیفه ما پیش‌بینی است.»
آنقدر گرم صحبت بودیم که نوید موبایلش را در پنل شارژ ایستگاه جا گذاشت!
این صحبت شاید شروع مشغله ذهن ما شد در حرف‌های بعدی و جلسات «برنامه یوز» انجمن. بعدها در انجمن تصمیم گرفتیم برای بدترین روزها آماده شویم. آسان بود؟ نه! به هیچ‌وجه. ابتدا باید از امیدمان کوتاه می‌آمدیم. تلخی را می‌چشیدیم و سخت‌ترین تصمیم‌ها را می‌گرفتیم. کنفرانس خبری سال ۹۵ یکی از آن‌ها بود.

سال ۱۳۹۷.
بچه‌های میراث هنوز تعیین تکلیف نشده بودند. صد وصله ناجور به دوربینگذاری زده بودند! با این حال درخواست دوربین گذاری در میاندشت دادیم. دوربین‌ها را هم فرستادیم وزارت اطلاعات تا تایید کند. حراست سازمان در تهران و خراسان شمالی همراهی کردند تا دوربین گذاری ها متوقف نشوند و نشدند.
آن‌زمان مهندس ظهرابی معاون محیط طبیعی سازمان شده بودند. گره بسیاری از کارها باز شده بود. برای اولین بار در تمام سال‌های کاری، جلسات مستمر برنامه ریزی و هماهنگی با معاونت داشتیم.
در جلسات «برنامه یوز» به اجماع رسیدیم که بالاخره آن روزی که از آن بیم‌ناک بودیم رسیده است. خیلی وقت بود که خبر خوشی از یزد و خراسان جنوبی نمی‌رسید.
کرمان هم که هیچوقت خبر ویژه‌ای نداشت. کسی نمی‌دانست در آنجا چه خبر است. به دلیل مین‌گذاری‌ها و عبور اشرار، دوربین گذاری امکان‌پذیر نبود. تنها خبر قابل توجه سال‌های اخیر، مرگ یوز خراسان جنوبی در آنجا بود. یعنی تنها یوزپلنگ ثبت شده در این سال‌ها، یوز یک استان دیگر بود. یوزپلنگی که به نام «پویان»(تصویر۱) می‌شناختیم.
سال نود و هفت زمانی بود که باید یک پله دیگر در نبرد با انقراض عقب می‌رفتیم. باید تا دیر نشده، فکری به حال تکثیر یوز در شرایط کنترل شده می‌شد.
